Our HIV-Focused Programs for Children and Families in Honduras
Montaña de Luz runs HIV care programs for children and families across Honduras, providing medical treatment, education, and family support services. Our programs serve children living at our group home as well as dozens of families in surrounding communities through Healthy Families Honduras and our Foster Families Network. From immersion trips to our Charla Luz advocacy team, each program is designed to reduce HIV stigma and empower individuals to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Honduras continues to face ongoing challenges from HIV, and our Honduran-designed and Honduran-led programming aims to continue the fight toward an AIDS-free future. Explore our programs below to see the impact your support makes.
Honduran Children's Home
A safe space where children can focus on their health, education and development. More than 100 young people have lived at the children’s home before turning 18, rejoining a family member or moving in with a foster family.
Immersion Trips
An opportunity learn about our programs first-hand and make cross-cultural connections with our youth and staff! Churches, universities, and other groups organize immersion trips to the Mountain of Light regularly.
Healthy Families Honduras
Support beyond our mountain to help families stay together, start a small business, and thrive. Our services include medical transportation, education, primary care, social work, mental health support, as well as training and equipment.
Charla Luz
An HIV/AIDS educational team that has reached more than 8,500 Hondurans. MdL staff and youth provide interactive skits on how HIV is (and isn’t) transmitted, as well as treatment and prevention options. The program aims to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
Scholarship Program
A place of learning for children from the community who otherwise are unable to stay in school. Scholarships enable students to get specialized tutoring and education, with MdL offering one of the only accredited facilities for students with learning differences in Honduras.
Foster Families Network
Seeing increasing literature on benefits of family-based care to child development, our foster care network seeks to integrate children into local family placements whenever possible. With no government-funded alternative, MdL provides stipends and monitors their health and education.
