HIV care programs for children and families in Honduras

Montaña de Luz runs HIV care programs for children and families across Honduras, providing medical treatment, education and family support services. Our programs serve children living at our group home as well as dozens of families in surrounding communities. From immersion trips to foster family support, each program is designed to reduce HIV stigma and empower individuals to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Honduras faces ongoing challenges from HIV. Children's Home: HIV care in Honduras

A safe space where children can focus on their health, education and development. More than 75 young people  have lived at the children’s home before turning 18, rejoining a family member or moving in with a foster family.

Immersion Trips

An opportunity to make a positive difference in person for our children while you learn and serve. Churches, universities and other groups organize immersion trips to the Mountain of Light. Trips usually involve a service project plus games, sports and other fund with MdL youth and staff.

Healthy Families

Support beyond our mountain to help families stay together, start a small business and thrive. Services include transportation to medical appointments, education, training and equipment for a start-up business, and other ways to enable families to remain together.

Charla Luz

An HIV/AIDS education program that has reached more than 4,000 Hondurans. MdL staff and youth provide entertaining skits on how HIV spreads (and doesn’t spread) and practical ways to avoid  the virus. In addition, the program aims to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.

MdL School

A place of learning for children from the community who otherwise get no education. Scholarships are provided to enable students to live during the week at the Mountain of Light, where they get specialized tutoring and help with reading, writing and math skills. Scholarship students spend weekends with their families.

Foster Families

A program to integrate children into family life after institutional care. Several former MdL employees have become foster parents for youths who spent time at the Mountain of Life. Other times, family members and others in the community welcome MdL children into their homes. MdL monitors health, safety and education.
